Content: the school goal is to enable researchers and professionals to map their datasets to the CIDOC CRM standard, an exercise required to integrate them in a wider framework such as the ARIADNE one. The school will provide a summary background of CIDOC CRM (2-3 days) showing some case studies and some frequently used templates (e.g. for chronology, authorship, locations, etc.). The remaining days will be dedicated to developing the mappings of students’ case studies, which they will carry out under the supervision of specialists.

IIASA’s annual 3-month Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) offers research opportunities to young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA’s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. From June through August accepted participants work within the Institute’s research programs under the guidance of IIASA scientific staff. Funding is provided through IIASA's National Member Organizations.
Applicants to the YSSP prepare a research proposal that corresponds both with their professional plans and the agenda of their selected IIASA Program. Accepted applicants begin work before the summer by planning their research in close collaboration with their IIASA supervisors. The 2014 program starts on June 1, 2014, and ends on August 31, 2014. In order to be considered, applicants must commit to staying for the entire program.
Registration for the 2014 program opened on October 1, 2013. Closing date is January 13, 2014. Candidates will be informed about acceptance of their applications by March 10, 2014.

"The Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria provides an ideal environment for discussing and learning about new computing technologies and how they are influencing teaching, research, dissemination, creation, and preservation in different disciplines, via a community-based approach.
During a week of intensive coursework, seminars, and lectures, participants share ideas and methods, and develop expertise in using advanced technologies. Every summer, the institute brings together faculty, staff, and students from the Arts, Humanities, Library, and Archives communities as well as independent scholars and participants from areas beyond."

Many kinds of data used in analysis and estimation have a hierarchical structure, where data observations can be clustered at one or several levels. For instance, an employee is hired at a department, at a local unit of an enterprise; or a pupil is in a class, at a school within a school district. Failing to take hierarchical data structures into account in the analysis and estimation may result in invalid inferences. This summer school gives an introduction to multilevel modeling, which provides tools for addressing hierarchical data structures.

The Ninth International Conference on Open Repositories, OR2014, will be held 9-13 June 2014 in Helsinki, Finland. This year’s conference theme is:
Towards Repository Ecosystems
Repository systems are but one part of the ecosystem in 21st century research, and it is increasingly clear that no single repository will serve as the sole resource for its community. How can repositories best be positioned to offer complementary services in a network that includes research data management systems, institutional and discipline repositories, publishers, and the open Web? When should service providers build to fill identified niches, and where should they connect with related services? How might these networks offer services to support organizations that lack the resources to build their own, or researchers seeking to optimize their domain workflows?
Examining how repositories best integrate into the holistic research flow; exploring ties between domain-specific repositories and institutional repositories; and understanding durable content strategies outside of traditional repository environments are the central themes of the Open Repositories 2014 conference. They welcome proposals on these themes, but also on the theoretical, practical, organizational or administrative topics related to digital repositories. They are particularly interested in hearing about:

Content: The school aims at providing training and hands-on experience on the tools for producing and managing 2D and 3D documentation for archaeological purposes, both for objects and for monuments/sites, including the related visualization tools. The school will provide an introduction to the technologies and tools in the first 2-3 days and a hands-on activity in the remaining ones, organizing the students in small groups. It is expected that each student will bring her/his own research project, so that practice can be made on case studies of direct interest for the students.

Hemsida: ICPSR Summer Program
Since its inception, the Consortium has offered the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research as a complement to its data services. The Summer Program provides a comprehensive, integrated program of studies in research design, statistics, data analysis, and social science methodology. Its instructional environment stresses integration of methods of quantitative analysis within a broader context of substantive social research. Instruction is grounded in interactive, participatory data-analysis utilizing high-end, networked microcomputers. Because of the range of methodological instruction, the opportunity for intensive study, and the quality of instruction and supporting facilities, the Summer Program has become internationally recognized as a preeminent forum for basic and advanced training in the methodologies and technologies of social science research and instruction.
