SCAPIS stands for Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study and is a unique research project within the field of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary disease.
The risk-factor pattern for cardiovascular diseases has changed during the last decades as smoking and blood lipids has decreased while metabolic risk factors such as obesity and type 2 diabetes has increased. SCAPIS is unique as it aims to investigate both heart, vessels and lungs and the comorbidity between COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and cardiovascular disease.
