Description
Kungsholmen Project was conducted between 1987 and 2000. There was a population study on aging by about 2500 people participating. The project, run by the Stockholm Gerontology Research Center in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute, is now completed, but data from the Kungsholmen Project is still used in research. Those who were invited to participate in the project were residents of Kungsholmen parish in 1987 and born in 1912 or earlier, hence the project name.
Survey every three years
On each examination, five times with at least three years, the participants got to meet a nurse, a doctor and psychologist. The nurse collected social data and measured the functional capacity, blood pressure and took blood samples. A relative or other close person got involved in a so-called kin interview. The medical examination consisted of a major medical and neurological examination. The psychologist did including various memory tests.
