Description
The information in the abstract is translated from the archeological report:
During autumn 2004 and spring 2005 an archaeological research investigation was performed on the Omberg hill in western Östergötland, with the purpose of understanding the prehistoric settlement and farming. The subject of examination was the archaeological site RAÄ 188 in Västra Tollstad parish, Ödeshög municipality. The site is a large, continuous area of abandoned fields, with clearances, clearance cairns, several hollow ways and one registered grave. In October 2004 a phosphate analysis was made of part of the area. In June 2005 four test pits were excavated in four different parts of the site. Two of them were placed in possible settlement terraces, that turned out to be natural, and the other two were dug in clearance cairns. Nothing speaks against the assumption of extensive farming with recurrent periods of fallow and stones being added to the cairns every time the land was reclaimed.
