Church funeral customs fairly similar nationally

Church funerals are fairly similar throughout Sweden. In the late 1990s the Swedish Council for Social Research had Göran Gustafsson, sociologist of religion, to study how funeral customs vary throughout the country. A number of aspects were analysed, such as eulogies, pallbearers and the priest’s involvement during the memorial. The results of the study show that funerals – when it comes to social aspects – are fairly similar throughout the country, regardless of the person buried.
