SND is granted continued funding from the Swedish Research Council

Published: 2021-09-22

SND has been granted continued funding from the Swedish Research Council for the time period 2023–2026. The exact amount that has been approved has not yet been announced. At the end of September, the Swedish Research Council will discuss the conditions for the grant with the SND steering committee and the University of Gothenburg.

—The SND consortium is very happy to hear about this positive decision. Our application was the product of intensive work in the entire consortium, so it’s particularly rewarding that our shared thoughts about the road ahead were so well received by the auditors, says SND Director Max Petzold as a comment to the decision.

As one of several research infrastructures, SND applied for a grant from the Swedish Research Council’s call for Grant for research infrastructure of national interest in February. 32 of these research infrastructures have now been awarded funding at a total of SEK 1.3 billion for the period through 2026. Behind SND’s grant application is a consortium of nine of the largest Swedish universities: University of Gothenburg (host university for SND), Chalmers University of Technology, Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, Stockholm University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University, and Uppsala University. SND’s application amounted to a total of SEK 76.5 million, and the idea is that the consortium universities will contribute with the same amount to the SND operations.

—After this positive decision, SND will now negotiate the terms with the Swedish Research Council. If our suggested budget is approved, we will have good opportunities to realize our large-scale initiative to strengthen SND’s role as a knowledge hub for Swedish researchers and their principal HEIs, while we also develop e-tools and take an active part in the international development and coordination, says Max Petzold.
